We are looking for a Data Center Services Specialist (f/m) to join our great team in Heidelberg, Germany, and carry the responsibility of managing datacenter operations and core infrastructure services which serve applications out of two datacenters in Western & Southern Europe (WSE). Our mission is to provide stable, secure, and scalable datacenter infrastructure services to the HeidelbergCement Group, and we pride ourselves in serving both the business directly and also supporting the departments creating the solutions which bring the company strategy to fruition. This challenging role requires holistic ownership of the entire datacenter service portfolio, from the datacenter facilities to the network, compute, and storage services, from business continuity to lifecycle management, from license compliance to financial adherence, and comes with the exciting chance to play a leading role during a time where the global datacenter strategy is poised to make major changes to support digital transformation within the company. We envision the role to be initially focused on datacenter operations with the immediate challenge to rebuild our regional secondary datacenter, and the expectation that the successful candidate will then take a leading role in the team with a focus on one or more services in the DCS Portfolio.

Datacenter operations:

Datacentre facility and vendor management

Physical asset lifecycle management:

Order-to-run” process for deploying new hardware

“Moves-Adds-Changes” process for modifying existing hardware

Hands-on activities during incidents

Decommissioning and disposal of end-of-service hardware

Inventory asset and configuration management

Continuous improvement of DCS processes

DCS portfolio management:

Lifecycle planning & License compliance

Capacity & Vendor management

Regular communication with Infrastructure Development and Architecture (IDA) to maintain overview of upcoming services

Regular communication with Global Operations Center (GOC) to ensure operational expectations are kept

Business Continuity:

Ensuring Disaster Recovery Plan documentation is up-to-date

Bi-annual Disaster Recovery Plan testing

Financial adherence: Budget planning & Tracking expenditure

Internal consultancy:

Point of contact for other departments requiring Foundation Services support expertise for design, planning, or implementation

Escalation point for major incidents or problem tickets

Minimum of 5 years IT experience, preferably in an enterprise environment

Experience in datacenter operations

Knowledge in one or more of the following areas is beneficial:

Network (Cisco Nexus, Cisco ASA, Cisco Wireless, Citrix NetScaler, MPLS)

Compute (x86 Server, VMware vSphere, Microsoft Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux)

Storage (NetApp)

Fluent in English and German (verbal and written) with good communication skills

Great team player and able to work in a global environment

Capable of performing physical datacenter work, potentially outside of business hours

Able to work without direct supervision

Motivation to gain new skills and experience
